The parishioners of Holy Comforter in Miami celebrated mass on Sunday, July 27, 2014 under a strong sun, but with the joy of being just another beautiful weekend.
Holding mass in Crandon Park, the congregation anxiously awaited hearing the word of God. The faithful helped set up an altar in a shelter from the beach, and moved tables, chairs, tablecloths and a large cross that adorned the space.
Due to mass being held on a popular beach in the city, interested vacationers also gathered to hear the word of God. The Rev. Rafael Garcia, who led the liturgy, said it is important for churches to move to places where people spend time with family on Sundays, because it helps bring the word of Christ outside of the church doors, and into their lives.
Intending to make this an annual event, the Holy Comforter family was pleased with the attendance and the popularity of "Sunday at the beach."
